INTACT FORESTS OF HIGH CONSERVATION VALUE IN THE REPUBLIC OF KARELIA
Dear colleagues!
We are very grateful that you would take such time to review the map Intact Forests of High Conservation Value in the Republic of Karelia. For review you may use the online template (switch to online review form) or send us your comments with electronic or regular mail.
The review procedure pursues a twofold goal: to improve the quality of a map and to ensure recognition of its high quality by experts and stakeholders. The review procedure of Global Forest Watch is therefore used. This entails the following:
- the draft map, its objectives and criteria and methodology on which it is based are made available to the public;
- experts and stakeholders are invited to provide feedback, including on the accuracy and presentation on the map;
- all feedback will be taken into account and used to improve the map to the extent possible, given the time and resources available; and
- a summary of the feedback will be made available to the public together with a description of how the feedback was used.
For better achievement of the review’s objectives we kindly ask you to pay attention to the following aspects:
- The relevance of a methodological approach used (from the standpoint of its scientific justification, technologies used, accuracy, reproducibility and verifiability of the results).
- Mapping accuracy (proofs of the presence of high conservation values and accuracy of final contours of intact forests based on own information and other thoughts).
We also ask you to mention in the review:
- Sources of additional data, which, according to your opinion, could improve the quality and reliability of the results.
- Comments and proposals on presentation of the results and map layout (including noted errors, misprints, methodical gaps, unclear wording).
- Any further proposals on work this direction, including on verification of its results.
At these pages you may get all necessary information on a method for mapping little disturbed forests as well maps themselves.
The sooner we receive your response, the greater the opportunity that we will be able to take it into account. Please send the finished review before June 30 2007 to: 117571 Russia, Moscow, Prospekt Vernadskogo, h. 88, b. 3, with remark For ScanEx/Transparent World, Dmitry Aksenov
